About Plaza de la Alameda
This square has historically been one of the most open and shared public spaces for the people of Coín, becoming a central gathering place for community life. The square is home to the two most recent Town Hall buildings, along with some of the last remaining examples of 19th-century architecture in the town. Among its most notable features are the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, popularly known as “El Santo de la Alameda,” and the beautiful fountain that stands at the center of the square. Carved from marble from the quarries of Coín, the fountain is considered the most monumental and elegant in the town. Beyond its aesthetic value, it symbolizes the arrival of potable water to Coín’s public squares—an important social, hygienic, and public health advancement for the community.
