El Retablo de las Maravillas in Málaga – Joglars Theatre Festival
Event Description
Experience El Retablo de las Maravillas in Málaga with the legendary company Joglars in a sharp, satirical adaptation of Cervantes. A brilliant theatrical reflection on power, deception, and human vanity.
About the Event
🎭 El Retablo de las Maravillas arrives in Málaga as part of the 43rd Theatre Festival in a bold adaptation by Joglars, awarded the Málaga de Teatro Prize 2026. Based on Cervantes’ famous entremés, the production transforms a classic farce into a sharp contemporary satire that explores fear, manipulation, and the social obsession with appearances. 🪞 Directed by Albert Boadella with dramaturgy by Boadella and Ramon Fontserè, the play reimagines the original 16th-century setting to reflect today’s society. Through humor and provocation, it exposes how deceit, power, and collective hypocrisy continue to shape worlds such as art, politics, religion, gastronomy, and social status. ✨ Performed by an outstanding cast from one of Spain’s most influential theatre companies, this 90-minute performance delivers biting comedy and intellectual depth. A must-see for audiences in Málaga who appreciate classic literature reinterpreted with modern relevance, sharp wit, and theatrical excellence.
