About Hermandad de Nuestra Señora del Rocío de Málaga la Caleta
⛪ The Royal, Illustrious and Venerable Brotherhood of Our Lady of El Rocío is a cornerstone of Andalusian Marian devotion, preserving a tradition deeply rooted in history, popular faith, and cultural identity. 📜 The origins of El Rocío date back to the Middle Ages, in a territory that once served as a crossroads of major routes, where historical records indicate the construction of an early hermitage dedicated to Saint Mary of the Rocinas, possibly founded by King Alfonso X “The Wise” in the 13th century. 🌿 Throughout the 14th and 15th centuries, the hermitage and its surroundings became an established place of pilgrimage and devotion, frequented by shepherds, farmers, and travelers, allowing the cult of the Virgin to expand far beyond its original local setting. 🙏 The brotherhood safeguards and passes on a devotion that has grown into one of Spain’s most significant religious expressions, structuring its activities around worship, pilgrimage, member formation, and the preservation of Rocío traditions. 🏛️ Today, the brotherhood continues its religious, cultural, and heritage-related mission, protecting the historical legacy of El Rocío while promoting the spiritual values that have defined devotion to the White Dove for centuries.
