About the Event
Spanish Contemporary Engraving Museum begins the 2026 exhibition cycle with: "The Persistence of the Minimal: Arturo Vermi," featuring a curated selection of paintings and sculptures by curator Simona Bartolena. 🎨 This exhibition is the first in Spain dedicated to this pioneer of minimalism in Europe. It will be accompanied by works from the Museum's collection by Spanish artists José Guerrero, Joan Hernández Pijuán, Elena del Rivero, and South Korean Hyong Keun-yun. The exaltation of the minimal favored the minimalist movement at the beginning of the sixties, with a language that prioritized formal reduction and emotional neutrality. In English-speaking countries, artists using industrial elements for their sterilized objectivity stood out, such as Donald Judd or Dan Flavin, while others, like Bruce Nauman, Brice Marden, or Agnes Martin, leaned towards a paradoxical connection between radically rationalist reflection and the opposite mystical assumptions of Eastern philosophies. Vermi's minimalism is distinguished by a profound poetic and symbolic charge, where every line, surface, and void becomes a bearer of meaning. Vermi chooses a discreet and meditative language, trusting repetition and geometry to convey his vision. The exhibition can be enjoyed until Tuesday, May 5, 2026. 🗓️
