About the Event
THE SPANISH CONTEMPORARY ENGRAVING MUSEUM WILL INAUGURATE THE EXHIBITION "THE ENDURING OF THE MINIMAL: ARTURO VERMI", MARKING THE FIRST EXHIBITION IN SPAIN DEDICATED TO THIS PIONEER OF MINIMALISM IN EUROPE The Spanish Contemporary Engraving Museum will kick off the 2026 exhibition cycle with: "The Enduring of the Minimal: Arturo Vermi", featuring a carefully curated selection of paintings and sculptures by curator Simona Bartolena, accompanied by works from the Engraving Museum's collection by Spaniards José Guerrero, Joan Hernández Pijuán, Elena del Rivero, and South Korean Hyong Keun-yun. 🎨 The exaltation of the minimal favored the minimalist movement in the early 1960s, with a language that prioritized formal reduction and emotional neutrality. In the Anglo-Saxon countries, artists who used industrial elements for their sterilized objectivity, like Donald Judd or Dan Flavin, stood out, while others, like Bruce Nauman, Brice Marden, or Agnes Martin, aimed at a paradoxical connection between radically rational reflection and the supposedly mystical aspects of Eastern philosophies. Vermi's minimalism is distinguished by a deep poetic and symbolic charge, where every line, surface, and void becomes a bearer of meaning. Vermi chooses a discreet and meditative language, trusting repetition and geometry to convey his vision. 🖼️
