Puccini’s TURANDOT

Set in mythical Beijing, Turandot pits suitors against three deadly riddles posed by the icy Princess Turandot; when the fearless Prince Calaf answers correctly, a tale of love, sacrifice and redemption unfolds to the soaring strains of “Nessun dorma.” The Marbella staging unites an international cast led by Olga Perrier and Nacho Guzmán Forgione, with the Moldovan National Opera chorus and orchestra under maestro Nicolae Dohotaru, ensuring grand-scale vocals and authentic Eastern-inspired costumes. Presented by the private Fundación José Banús y Pilar Calvo, the annual festival has become a cornerstone of the city’s cultural calendar, drawing opera lovers from across Europe to the intimate 480-seat Teatro Ciudad de Marbella. With an estimated running time of about three hours (two intervals), audiences will experience Puccini’s final, unfinished score completed by Franco Alfano—now often re-examined for modern sensibilities—making this production both timeless and timely.
