About Teatro del Carmen
🏛️ Teatro del Carmen stands on the historic site of the Carmelite convent of San José de la Soledad, originally built in 1591. In 1995, the former church was carefully converted into a theatre, preserving key architectural elements of its past. 🎨 The building retains its original Mannerist façade and 18th-century murals, creating a unique atmosphere where history and contemporary culture coexist. Of the original convent, the cloister and the church — now the theatre — remain as witnesses to centuries of local heritage. 🎭 With an intimate capacity of around 200 seats, Teatro del Carmen is especially appreciated for its excellent acoustics and close connection between performers and audience. It regularly hosts flamenco festivals, concerts, exhibitions and cultural events. 🌿 Located in Plaza del Carmen, in the heart of Vélez-Málaga, this venue offers an authentic cultural experience, away from mass tourism, ideal for those seeking genuine Andalusian artistic expression.
