Niño de Elche

Francisco Contreras was born in Elche (Alicante) in 1985 and trained as a traditional cantaor, winning early flamenco prizes before turning toward multidisciplinary art. His landmark album Voces del Extremo (2015) earned Spain’s prestigious Premio Ruido for Best Record, while Antología del Cante Flamenco Heterodoxo (2018) cemented his reputation for radical experimentation. Relentlessly curious, he blends kraut-rock, electro-acoustics, spoken word and contemporary dance, collaborating with avant-garde icons such as choreographer Israel Galván, Sonic Youth co-founder Lee Ranaldo and performer Arto Lindsay. His voice also crosses into mainstream pop through hit singles like “Un Veneno” with C. Tangana and “Seguiriya Madre” with Rosalía, widening his audience to more than 2.3 M monthly listeners on Spotify. Today he tours major festivals worldwide, presenting shows such as Flamenco. Mausoleo de Celebración, Amor y Muerte and radio projects on Spain’s Radio 3 that continue to redefine what flamenco can be.
