About
🕯️ The Unicaja Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions in Malaga becomes a stage to relive one of the city’s darkest chapters with the play “The Plague in 17th-Century Malaga”. Theatre company Historia Viva de Málaga offers a dramatized adaptation that takes us back to 1637, when a severe plague epidemic killed almost two thirds of Malaga’s population. 🎠Through characters from different social groups –nobility, clergy, common people, doctors and authorities– the play shows how the city faced the pandemic: fear, superstition, the rudimentary health measures of the time and the struggle to survive in a place ravaged by disease. The tone mixes historical accuracy with touches of dark humour and social critique, making it both educational and deeply engaging. 🏛️ Performed in the courtyards and spaces of the museum itself, the show uses the traditional architecture to immerse the audience in the atmosphere of the 17th century, almost like a theatrical guided tour into the past. It’s a perfect plan for anyone who enjoys historical theatre, storytelling and learning more about Malaga’s local history.
