Lecture: Biblical Tarshish and the Tartessos Civilization
Event Description
Lecture about biblical Tarshish and the Tartessos civilization on March 11 at Hospital Real de la Misericordia in Marbella.
About the Event
The Tartessos Conference Series in Marbella presents the lecture Biblical Tarshish and the Emporium City of Tartessos. The Protohistoric Site of Huelva, an event dedicated to exploring one of the most fascinating mysteries of ancient history. The talk will be delivered by Fernando González de Canales, corresponding member of the Royal Academy of History and independent researcher known for his work on Tartessos and ancient Mediterranean civilizations. The lecture will examine the possible connection between historical Tartessos and the Tarshish mentioned in biblical texts, a land described as rich in metals and connected to long-distance trade routes nearly three thousand years ago. Special attention will be given to the protohistoric archaeological site of Huelva, one of the most significant discoveries for understanding the reality of the Tartessos civilization. Archaeological findings reveal evidence of international trade networks, mineral wealth and cultural exchanges long before the Roman period. Recent discoveries, including newly studied sculptures and artifacts, are helping historians reinterpret the role of Tartessos in the ancient Mediterranean world. The lecture takes place on Wednesday, March 11 at 19:00 at the Hospital Real de la Misericordia in Marbella. A cultural event for those interested in archaeology, ancient history and the origins of Mediterranean civilizations.
