Experience cutting-edge Spanish cinema with Is He the Enemy? The Gila Movie (2024, 100 min). Written and directed by Algeciras-born Alexis Morante, the film blends wartime drama and wry comedy to show how Spain’s Civil War forged 17-year-old Miguel Gila into the stand-up icon behind the legendary “Is that the enemy?” telephone routine. Starring Óscar Lasarte, Carlos Cuevas and Goya-winner Natalia de Molina, it offers a poignant, humorous portrait of artistic resilience. This screening is part of Marbella’s Spanish Film Showcase, featuring six titles between 30 June and 18 July. Catch it at the IES Río Verde Screening Room (C/ Notario Luis Oliver, 18) on 9 July at 8 p.m.; general admission €3. After the film, stay for a live Q&A with Morante, fresh from his triple win at the Carmen Andalusian Film Awards, to learn about filming in Biscay and adapting Gila’s memoir. Seats are limited—doors open 30 minutes before showtime. Join students, cinephiles and history buffs for an engaging night of cinema and conversation in Marbella.
