🔥 Marbella is the first Spanish city and the fourth in Europe to host the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship. Around 7,000 athletes and 20,000+ visitors are expected, with an economic impact near €60 million. 🌊 The race starts at Levante Beach (Puerto Banús) with a 1.9 km Mediterranean swim. The 90 km bike course climbs through Marbella, Ojén, Monda and Coín to Cártama, then descends back to the coast. The half‑marathon run traces Marbella’s beachfront promenade, finishing back on the sand. 🚧 To keep things safe, authorities will deploy 70 local police officers and 60 Civil Protection volunteers. The most traffic‑sensitive window is 08:00–16:00, impacting Puerto Banús, the Golden Mile, Ojén road and Trapiche junction; alternative routes will be shared on official channels. 🎟️ Entry is by qualification only: earn a slot at an IRONMAN 70.3 between July 6, 2024 and June 29, 2025. Slot numbers vary by race and are confirmed at awards ceremonies.
Do not cross the finish line or finish chute with the athlete; pets are also prohibited in this area. Penalty: athlete disqualification. No outside assistance or pacing is allowed (e.g., running or biking alongside, handing items outside official zones). Do not litter outside designated areas, and avoid unsportsmanlike behavior at all times.
The Marbella City Council will deploy around 70 local police officers and 60 Civil Protection volunteers; the most traffic-affected time will be 08:00–16:00 (Puerto Banús, Golden Mile, Ojén road, Trapiche junction). Alternative routes will be published on official channels. Always follow the instructions of staff and volunteers. Keep emergency routes clear and do not enter the course during any of the three segments.
Athletes You must wear a shirt or top during the bike and run segments; otherwise, you may receive a penalty or be disqualified. Public nudity or indecent exposure is prohibited at all times. Wetsuits are allowed up to 24.5 °C (age group) and banned above 28.8 °C; mandatory below 16 °C. Wetsuits may cover everything except face, hands, and feet; max thickness: 5 mm. In non-wetsuit swims: swimwear may not cover the neck, extend past the elbows or knees, and must be 100% textile. Spectators Wear comfortable clothing and respect security checkpoints (bags may be checked; some items may be restricted per the event guide). Avoid large items that block views or pathways.
To participate in an IRONMAN 70.3 event, you must be 18 years old (race age = your age as of December 31 of the event year). Children and companions are not allowed to cross the finish line or enter the finish chute with the athlete.
