About David Palomar
Born in Cádiz’s seaside barrio de La Viña, David Palomar stepped onto professional stages at just 17, cutting his teeth in local tablaos before joining the fusion outfit Levantito. A decisive breakthrough came with his solo recital series Palomar, el cante and the 2008 debut album Trimilenaria, crowned “Best First Record” by DeFlamenco.com. He followed up with La Viña: CantĂłn Independiente (2010) and DenominaciĂłn de Origen (2013), each deepening his homage to Cádiz’s carnival-tinged phrasing while adding modern harmonic twists. Palomar’s restless creativity has shared billings with maestros such as Juan de Juan and guitarist Rafael RodrĂguez, and his show Desamparao earned rave reviews at the XXIII Bienal de Sevilla for blending traditional cantes with social commentary. In 2016 the Junta de AndalucĂa awarded him the Bandera de AndalucĂa for projecting Cádiz culture worldwide, cementing his status as the city’s unofficial musical ambassador. Summer 2025 sees him headline the IX Bienal de Málaga with the tribute “100 veces Perla”, reviving the legacy of La Perla de Cádiz in Marbella’s open-air Auditorio JosĂ© PernĂa CalderĂłn (17 July, €20). Expect 90 electrifying minutes of tientos-tangos, soleá por bulerĂas and carnival-flavoured alegrĂas, delivered with the punchy compás of guitarist RubĂ©n Lara and palmas that echo Cádiz’s salt-spray nights. Dress light, bring your duende and let Palomar’s gravel-and-gold voice rattle your bones.
