Hermandad Nuestra Señora del Carmen

Devotional brotherhood that honors the Virgin of Carmen, Patroness and “Queen of the Seas” of Marbella, organizing the iconic seaborne procession on July 16 and preserving an 18th-century baroque statue that symbolizes the city's seafaring faith and tradition.

About

The Brotherhood of Our Lady of Carmen Crowned has its house located on José Manuel Vallés Street, very close to La Bajadilla Fishing Port, which is the starting point for the main events every July 16. Origins and Image The main image is a polychrome wood sculpture from the 18th century, rescued and hidden by local devotees during the religious persecution of 1936. It is seen as a powerful symbol of resistance and devotion. In 2012, the Bishop of Málaga declared her the Patroness of Marbella, acknowledging the widespread popular devotion that had long united fishermen, sailors, and families from across the Costa del Sol. On November 2, 2023, her canonical coronation was approved, with the ceremony supported by the Marbella City Council and King Felipe VI acting as honorary president of the organizing committee.
